Asda’s ‘Winter Warmer’ initiative and other support

Reading Time: 2 mins

Supermarket Asda has announced a new range of initiatives to help customers struggling through the cost-of-living crisis. Named the ‘Winter Warmer’ initiatives, the support is aiming to give reassurance to those in the community and vulnerable groups this winter.

They are offering customers over the age of 60 a warm bowl of soup, a bread roll and unlimited tea or coffee for just £1. This offer can be redeemed in any of Asda’s in-store cafes all day, every day throughout December.

kids eat for £1

Taking the grandchildren shopping? Looking after a little one? The initiative will run alongside the ‘Kids Eat for £1’ offer, which will also run until the end of the year. More than 557,000 meals have been given for just £1 since June, a hugely popular scheme.

the community cuppa campaign

These are not the only schemes Asda is running this winter, either. The ‘Community Cuppa’ campaign is for community groups, creating space for people to come together. Local groups and individuals who may otherwise struggle to meet due to rising energy costs can come together to socialise.

These spaces are available on weekdays throughout December from 2pm to 6pm. Anyone who visits as part of a community group will receive free and unlimited tea and coffee.

cost of living grant scheme

The supermarket giant isn’t stopping there, either. Its cost-of-living grant programme, led by the Asda Foundation, is providing £500,000 worth of funding to community groups across the UK. They hope to help groups struggling with rising operating costs and increased demand due to the current economic situation.

Individual grants worth up to £2,000 are available, with priority being given to groups and charities in need of financial help. This includes groups which need help covering energy costs or want to use their facilities to create ‘warm banks’. These are spaces where people can keep warm if they cannot afford to heat their homes in the colder months.
